Switzerland

Welcome to Switzerland - a small yet diverse country in the heart of Europe. Nestled between the soaring peaks of the Alps and the serene waters of Lake Geneva, Switzerland boasts a rich history and a culture as unique as its geography.

Switzerland's history dates back to the 13th century, when a group of three cantons (states) in central Switzerland formed an alliance to protect their interests and maintain peace in the region. This alliance, known as the Old Swiss Confederacy, was established in 1291 in the canton of Uri. According to legend, in 1291, representatives from Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden met on the Rütli Meadow to pledge an oath of mutual support and cooperation. This event is considered the birth of the Old Swiss Confederacy. Over time, more cantons joined the confederacy, and Switzerland gradually developed into a federal state. In the 16th century, the Protestant Reformation brought about significant changes in the country, leading to religious conflicts and political tensions. However, Switzerland managed to remain a neutral state during the many wars that ravaged Europe in subsequent centuries.
