Life on four wheels
Road tripping
A road trip is one of the best ways to experience a country while getting in touch with nature and your surroundings. Imagine waking up at sunrise on a deserted beach - how often do such moments present themselves in life? If you're new to road trips, don't fret! Before hitting the road in your van, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Apart from the gas tank, a van has a water tank (e.g. for the sink), propane (e.g. for gas stone), and, if you have a toilet, a disposal tank. You can fill up your water and propane and dispose of wastewater in gas stations.
In addition to the car battery, certain vans (bigger ones) have a separate battery to warm water. If your van has this feature, you will need to recharge it periodically in a campsite, depending on how long your van's battery lasts. To determine the battery's lifespan, it's recommended to spend at least one night in a campsite or outside to gauge how much battery you use. This will help you understand and put into perspective how much battery you will need for future trips.
Pack a headlamp. Despite having a light inside the van, you'll miss it during the night when
If you are staying long, I recommend renting a van where you can stand up, you will greatly appreciate this!
Download Park4Night App to look for camping spots and disposal and recharging sites. I can't emphasize how helpful this app is.
Now that you are all set, here are some places I've been while touring in a van.
California 🇺🇸
In the summer of 2022, my dear friend Irene and I embarked on a two-week road trip in California, where we explored the state's diverse landscapes, starting with its magnificent national parks, and then continuing on to the relaxed West Coast - a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. One of the most notable aspects of our California road trip was driving on the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, which offered breathtaking views of the ocean and coastline.
Portugal 🇵🇹
I absolutely adore going on road trips in Portugal! The country's beautiful coastline, charming villages, and breathtaking countryside make it the perfect destination. However, what I love the most about road-tripping in Portugal is being able to watch the sunset and fall asleep to the sound of waves.
