Kapellbrücke: historic wooden footbridge in the heart of Lucerne, Switzerland. Built in the 14th century, the bridge served as a defensive structure and a chapel dedicated to St. Peter. However, tragedy struck in 1993 when a fire broke out and destroyed a large section of the bridge and caused significant damage to the chapel. The community rallied together to restore the bridge within two years, and it now stands as a symbol of the city's resilience and strength. Inside the bridge, visitors can admire the intricate paintings and murals that depict various events from Lucerne's history (one example can be seen at the bottom)
The Löwendenkmal, or the Lion Monument, is a sculpture in Lucerne, Switzerland that was designed by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820-21 by Lukas Ahorn. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred during the French Revolution in 1792 while protecting the Tuileries Palace in Paris.
